Victim Services of Peel’s programs and services are designed to help people in Brampton and Mississauga affected by virtually every crime and tragic circumstance.
Around-the-Clock Crisis Intervention
24 hours a day, every day of the year, critical care helps individuals, families, businesses and organizations re-establish safety, prevent re-victimization and develop personal paths to recovery.
Critical Incident Debriefing
Counselling occurs in the workplace or other location(s) where a traumatic incident has occurred. Counsellors will work with groups and individuals to help them debrief following a traumatic incident in the workplace.
Short Term Counselling
Counselling and information about community resources and referrals helps to empower people to make informed choices. Individual, family and group services are also offered.
Supportlink/Domestic Violence Emergency Response System (DVERS)
Enhanced protection, intensive safety planning and ongoing counselling helps people at high risk of violence, including 911 one-touch emergency cell phones and personal safety alarms directly linked to Peel Regional Police.
Witness Support
Advocacy within the judicial process helps ensure victims’ rights are upheld and courts take the required steps to ensure their safety. Court support services include communication on behalf of clients, monitoring of bail hearings, and same-day outcome communications to the client.
Transitional and Housing Support
Development of structured safety plans to help female victims of violence who choose to leave their assailant and establish violence-free lives. Counselling and resources for female victims is offered to develop personal support networks with individuals and families to help them to achieve their personal goals.
Resources, Education, Advocacy and Community Help (REACH)
REACH packages for individuals, groups and organizations help educate victims about community services and personal experiences following victimization. REACH packages are available by mail or in the workplace, with follow up to address individual questions and needs.
SAFE - South Asian Family Enrichment Program
Collaboration with individuals, cultural centres, businesses and religious organizations within ethno-specific communities to provide culturally-appropriate services that assist women, men and children in eliminating violence within their families.
